How to Reduce Dialysis Frequency for Kidney Failure Patients

How to reduce dialysis frequency for kidney failure patients? Dialysis is a medical procedure in which blood is purified with a machine. For kidney failure patients, they may need to do dialysis once, twice or tree times a week according to their illness condition. Dialysis helps to clean blood; however, the longer time that kidney failure patients do dialysis, the lower their survival rate. What is worse, they always experience a group of discomforts during or after dialysis such as nausea, vomiting, headache, tiredness and restless leg syndrome and so on. Therefore, trying to avoid, delay or reduce dialysis frequency is very important. Well, how to reduce dialysis frequency for kidney failure patients?
When it comes to a kidney failure patient who has been on dialysis for many years, I'd like to ask: does the patient still have urine output? Kidney is a bean-shaped organ that helps us produce urine and meanwhile excrete wastes through urine. Urine output means there are still healthy kidney function and in such a condition, it is possible to improve kidney function and reduce dialysis frequency. For kidney failure patients, their kidneys have been injured severely and in their kidney, kidney tissues are divided into three parts. One part refers to kidney tissues that have died. These kidney cells can not be revived. Apart from dead kidney cells, there are healthy one and injured one. Injured kidney cells can be repaired through Micro-Chinese Medicine Osmotherapy which a treatment based on Chinese herbs. In this treatment, some of the effective ingredients can activate injured kidney intrinsic cells to help them work again. And when these injured kidney cells perform function again, kidney function is improved and also dialysis frequency is reduce successfully.
We have treated a patient from Papua New Guinea before and after our treatment, he gets off dialysis finally. Therefore, kidney failure patients should not be negative and try to seize every chance to fight against kidney problem.

Common Side Effects of Dialysis

When CKD develops into stage 5, the kidney function is almost damaged completely. In this situation, doctors will recommend patients to do dialysis. Dialysis can replace the kidney to remove the wastes and fluids from the body. However, doing dialysis has side effects. Now we will introduce common side effects of dialysis for you.
In general, there are two major types of dialysis, which are hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis. Most patients with stage 5 choose hemodialysis, which is the most common type of dialysis.
The common side effects of hemodialysis:
1. Tiredness. Patients with dialysis feels tired all the time. Some causes may lead to fatigue, which are below:
-- In the dialysis process, patients need to lie in bed for four or five hours.
-- Low dry weight and too much intake of fluids.
-- Anxiety and some other negative emotions caused by dialysis.
-- Dialysis aggravates anemia and low blood pressure.
Patients with dialysis can discuss with the dietitian that if a little more energy can be added in the diet. Taking some exercise helps alleviate fatigue. At the beginning, they may have difficulty with exercise because of short breath. However, if they insist, exercise will be easy for them some time later. The exercise we recommend is walking, running and cycling.
2. Low in blood pressure. When patients do dialysis, blood is pumped out largely, leading to low level of blood pressure. Gaining excessive fluids between sessions of dialysis leads to low blood pressure, thus patients must not drink much water in daily life. Besides, patients with dialysis often take some medicines for lowering blood pressure. Before doing dialysis, patients should make an adjustment to doses of medicines.
Low blood pressure may cause nausea and dizziness.
3. Infections. In the dialysis process, staphylococcus aureus bacteria can lead to the infection of blood. When infected, patients have the symptoms of having a temperature and dizziness.
In this situation, patients should go to the hospital as soon as possible.
4. Muscle cramps. It is a very common complication during the process of dialysis. It means that muscles make an reaction to the blood loss. When muscle cramps occur, dialysis has to be terminated. The pathological causes are not clear, but cramps tend to happen near the end of hemodialysis treatments, which is associated with plasma osmolality and extracellular fluid volume.
In the dialysis process, if muscle cramps occur, patients need to tell doctors. Patients can ask the doctor for some medicine to alleviate it.
5.Restless leg syndrome. It means patients keep moving their legs because of leg nerves and muscles making crawly or prickly sensations. Restless leg syndrome is related to some kidney diseases, diabetes, hardening of the arteries, or vitamin B deficiency, so it's very important to let doctors know if this symptom occurs.
6.Skin itching. The causes are below:
- As the kidney is severely damaged, wastes and toxins build up in the body.
- The imbalance of Phosphorus and calcium. Less calcium in the blood can stimulate parathyroid glands to release parathyroid hormone, which causes skin itching.
- Medicines taken by patients may lead to itching.
Apart from the above, patients may have problems with sleeping, bones and emotions.
The common side effects of peritoneal dialysis
1. Peritonitis. When patients do peritoneal dialysis, bacterial infection of the peritoneum (peritonitis) can occur because of unsterilized equipment. After injected, patients have poor appetite, nausea and abdominal pain.
The doctors inject antibiotics in the the tissue of the peritoneum to treat peritonitis.
2. Hernia. In peritoneal dialysis, insertion of the catheter can make muscles of the abdominal wall become weak. And pumping the blood puts a strain on muscles of the abdomen, which leads to hernia.
Hernia can be repaired through surgery.
3. Abdomen pain because of dialyzers and dialyzates.
4. Swelling and pulmonary edema.
5. Dialysis tubular blockage.
6. Protein loss and low potassium.
Besides, patients with peritoneal dialysis may have weight gain and malnutrition.

Patients with stage 5 of CKD should decide whether to do dialysis carefully, because there are many side effects. As a consequently, if there aren’t many toxins building up and much swelling in the body, patients at stage 5 don’t have to do dialysis and can be treated with other methods. Nevertheless, if dialysis is very essential, they need to consult the doctor in details to choose which type of dialysis is the most suitable.

Diet Nursing for Dialysis Patients

At present, blood purification equipments update constantly and this has helped to significantly prolong the patients' survival time. However, with constant dialysis, the patients will lose their appetite and may suffer from many other diseases because of malnutrition. So, diet nursing for dialysis patients has become an important topic.
1. Get enough protein
Dialysis can make the patient lose a certain amount of protein and amino acid, and it can also promote protein alienation effect, resulting in negative nitrogen balance. Therefore, dialysis patients should get more protein. Eighty percent of patients should get high-quality protein such as egg white, milk, lean, fish, etc. Such high-quality protein can increase the utilization of protein and produce less metabolic waste.
2. A moderate amount of calorie intake
Sufficient calories can restrain protein alienation and help the patient maintain their weight. If their calorie intake is insufficient, the protein will be consumed as calories. It can produce more metabolic waste just because protein decomposing metabolism accelerates.
3. Maintain the water balance and limit the salt intake
Most of dialysis patients have less urine or no urine, so they should control their water intake strictly and eat less food that contains a lot of water. Maintaining the water balance is the key to prevent complications and increase the survival rate of dialysis patients. Eating much salted food will make the patient thirsty, and then they will want to have more water. So limiting the salt intake is more important than limiting the water intake.
4. Restrict kalium, phosphorus intake
A high quantity of serum kalium can cause arrhythmia and cardiac failure, so dialysis patients should avoid the vegetables which contain a lot of kalium such as spinach, leaf mustard, balsam pear, chives, kelp, agaric, etc. Hyperphosphatemia can cause renal osteopathia, so limiting phosphorus intake in the diet nursing is very important. Phosphorus mainly exists in dairy products, egg yolks and animal innards and so on.
5. Increase water-soluble vitamin intake
Because dialysis patients lack of activated vitamin D, blood calcium concentration is relatively low. The patients inevitably lose water-soluble vitamins in the dialysis. So they must increase the intake of water-soluble vitamins.
Diet nursing is an ideal treatment for dialysis patients, so they should pay more attention to their diet in their daily life. Getting enough nutrition can help them to fight against their disease more powerfully.

Side Effects of Dialysis and Kidney Transplant in Kidney Failure

1.Long-term dialysis patients are at high risk to develop dialysis amyloidosis - carpal tunnel syndrome.
2. Hyperparathyroidism caused by metastatic calcification, pruritus, severe arrhythmias.
3. Renal osteodystrophy, renal rickets, the aluminum poisoning bone disease, amyloidosis osteodystrophy.
Dialysis encephalopathy, aluminum toxic dementia.
Uremic cardiomyopathy, myopathy.
6. Malnutrition.
Vision loss and blindness in severe cases.
Acquired renal cysts.
9. Immunocompromised, susceptible, prone to tumors.
What is a kidney transplant?
Kidney transplantation is commonly known as the "kidney transplant", but this is not a new kidney replacement original kidneys, but the new kidney is implanted in the patient's body, generally the iliac fossa, instead of the original work of the kidneys.
Kidney transplantation has been recognized as the best treatment method for the treatment of chronic renal failure and uremia. Used in clinical renal transplantation more than 40 years, all organ transplant, a kidney transplant efficacy and safety of the best. All renal failure, uremia patients can do a kidney transplant?
Kidney transplant surgery and other surgery compared to a high-risk surgery. Patients with renal failure because of the various systems of the body may damage and dysfunction, so not all patients with renal failure can do a kidney transplant, kidney transplant, said doctors in general clinical indications:
Kidney transplant is actually no longer age restrictions, but by age influence the effect of renal transplantation, kidney transplant from a baby of a few months to more than 80-year-old man can. General age requirement of 13-60 years old, good physical condition, may be appropriate to relax; older than 55 years old by surgery complications increased, the relative increase in the risk; younger than 13 years of age, especially in less than 4 years old the recipients, kidney transplant surgery significantly increased the difficulty of these affect the success rate of the surgery and effect.
By dialysis treatment in good physical condition uremic patients can renal transplant. But part of disease, kidney transplantation prone to complications should be careful.
Various primary or secondary kidney disease: glomerulonephritis, interstitial nephritis, hereditary nephritis, polycystic kidney disease, diabetic nephropathy, hypertension, arteriosclerosis nephropathy, drug-induced renal damage, lupus nephritis and so feasible renal transplantation.
Abnormal liver function, ulcer disease, lung infections, urinary tract infections, tuberculosis, heart failure, pericardial effusion must be cured before kidney transplantation.
For hepatitis B, hepatitis C virus infection required after treatment, liver function to normal one month after renal transplantation as well. Interferon therapy should not be within a short time after renal transplantation. Contraindications and relative contraindications kidney transplant?
Uremic patients at the same time suffering from cancer, chronic respiratory failure, severe vascular disease, coagulation disorders, intractable heart failure, psychosis, severe urinary tract malformations and difficult to cure infected are not suitable for renal transplantation.
Uremia associated with more severe coronary heart disease and nephritis, polycystic kidney disease associated with severe polycystic liver renal transplantation should be careful. Significantly increased risk of postoperative infection, severe liver damage, kidney disease recurrence in the short term, and heart attack increased cardiac accidents.

Why Do Patients Feel Tired And Nauseous After Dialysis?

Several times’ dialysis in one week or one month may make the patients frustrated. If they are tired and nauseous after dialysis, they will feel that every dialysis is tormenting them and they may reject dialysis as the time goes on. So to find out the reasons which make them tired and nauseous is very important for dialysis patients to stop these discomforts from happening.
According to the clinical research, dialysis patients’ nausea and tiredness due to several reasons (low blood pressure, infection, severe anemia, allergic reaction, etc). Next we will discuss each of these reasons more detailedly.
Low blood pressure
The incidence of low blood pressure accounts for 25-60 percent, so it is one of the most common causes, if not the most common cause, of patients’ tiredness and nausea after dialysis. In the dialysis treatment, a lot of fluid is removed to prevent it from accumulating in the body and producing too much urine. But the more fluid that has been removed, the greater the chance of dialysis patients feeling tired and nauseous will be.
Infection
Infection, as a common cause, can be observed easily. It indicates the patients have been infected if fever and chill occur after the dialysis, and the infection can damage not only the kidney but also many other organs. So dialysis patients should let their doctor or nurse know their problem.
Severe anemia
Ordinary people suffering severe anemia usually feel very tired and dizzy. The dialysis patients’ reaction to severe anemia must be stronger because much nutrition is lost during the dialysis. Then severe anemia can aggravate the dialysis patients’ tiredness and nausea.
Allergic reaction
The number of the dialysis patients suffering from the allergic reaction may be smaller than the above reasons, but it can also make the patients have an ill feeling once the patients have an allergic reaction to the dialyzer. So the patients should not ignore this reason.
Feeling tired and nauseous can make dialysis patients painful and a long-time reaction to dialysis may cause these patients’ rejection to dialysis, so they can’t live with it happily. Now since we have known the reasons which cause patients’ bad feeling, we must help them to prevent these reasons.

Immune Absorption for Kidney Failure

Immune absorption is a new blood purification technology in recent years with high selectivity. Making full use of high specific antigen-antibody response or some materials which has appetency, put the absorption agent onto the absorption column, so as to absorb the pathological substance(ligand), thus purifying blood and relieving symptoms and discomfort. In Shijiazhuang Kidney Disease Hospital, we mainly use immunotherapy, which includes immune absorption, which is a method in systematic immune diagnosis. The core therapy is Micro-Chinese Medicine Osmotherapy. Immune absorption plays the following role in immunotherapy.
1. It has strong selective ability to the combination of antibody and antigen, which can clear away the obstacles or barriers for the application of Micro-Chinese Medicine Osmotherapy.
2. It has specific ability to clear away immune complex, which can lay a foundation for Micro-Chinese Medicine.
3. Patients do not need replacement liquid so as to avoid the infection disease of blood purification facilities.
4. After immune absorption, there is no lost in the elements of plasma, and the treatment degree can also be adjusted on the basis of the specific condition.
5. Immune absorption can relieve the symptoms and shorten the treatment course, which can assist the treatment of Micro-Chinese Medicine. What’s more, it can improve the micro-blood circulation and make contribution to the repairment.

How Can You Prevent Tiredness and Nausea Before Dialysis?

Are you a dialysis patient? Are you puzzled by tiredness or nausea after dialysis? If your answer is yes, the following content will be useful for you to prevent your tiredness and nausea.
Why can these bad feelings puzzle you?
Hypotension, allergic reaction, infection and severe anemia all can cause your tiredness and nausea. If you think bad feelings are normal and don’t pay attention to them, your condition will be worse and worse as the time goes on. So it is important for you to prevent these symptoms before your dialysis.
How can you prevent tiredness and nausea before dialysis?
There is an old saying in China: Take medicine according to your disease symptoms. So if you want to prevent these bad feelings, you must take some measures according to the above causes.
Hypotension, as the most common cause, may be the root factor of your tiredness and nausea. In this situation, you can take the following measures
·control your dry weight strictly
·prolong the dialysis time suitably
·increase the dialysis time
·adjust the sodium concent in dialysis fluid
Allergic reaction usually happens due to reaction to the dialyzer. So choosing a befitting dialysis can help you to solve this problem.
Infection, which is usually accompanied by fever, can be detected easily. If you find infection in the first dialysis, you should tell your doctor or your nurse to change your dialysis prescription and then you can prevent the next infection.
Severe anemia can not only cause your tiredness and nausea but also affect your daily life. Lacking nutrition is the main cause of severe anemia, so you had better take enough nutrition and have a health diet.
Temporary tiredness and nausea may not affect your life seriously, but they can make you health worse and worse with the time going, so you should prevent them actively.

Will Patients’ Urine Become Less and Less with Dialysis?

Urine, usually as the mark of kidney disease, is used by dialysis patients to judge whether their kidney disease is serious. As their condition becomes worse, they have to choose dialysis to replace the function of their kidney. At that time, it may be one of questions that puzzle them whether their urine will become less and less with dialysis.
Most of patients have a lot of urine when they just begin dialysis, and they can have enough urine after dialysis if their kidney still has some function. In this situation, the urine of dialysis patients won’t reduce and they don’t need to dehydration or just a little dehydration. But if they don’t take effective treatment timely, their urine will also become less as their conditions is serious.
Only relying on dialysis can only prolong the patients’ life, but their disease condition will aggravate as the time goes on. So they should take some other measures to maintain their urine quantity. Micro-Chinese Medicine Osmotherapy may be a good choice for these patients.
Micro-Chinese Medicine Osmotherapy, the combination of traditional Chinese medicine and western medicine, can adjust patients’ body and protect their kidney function to maintain their urine quantity. Through external application and medical bath, on the one hand this treatment effectively avoid the herb’s bitter and its slow effect, on the other hand this treatment can eliminate the western medicine’s side-effects. So I say it is a good choice for dialysis patients to maintain their urine quantity.
Open your eyes, you will find the sky is blue, open your ears, you will hear the sound of our world is sweet, and open your heart to Micro-Chinese Medicine Osmotherapy, you will find our health is coming and your urine is not less after dialysis.

Should I, a CRF Patient, Choose Dialysis or Kidney Transplant?

“Should I choose to continue dialysis or accept kidney transplant?” A CRF Patient asked me a few days ago. This question may be the concern of tens of thousands of CRF patients, so today I will give my detailed answer for these patients.
Dialysis and kidney transplant are both treatments for renal failure patients. When their kidneys begin to fail and can’t play their normal function, these people have to consider dialysis or kidney transplant to replace their failed kidneys. Different treatments have their own advantages and disadvantages, so CRF patients should choose the available treatment according to their disease condition.
Dialysis is better than kidney transplant for this group of CRF patients.
The CRF patients should choose dialysis, when their kidneys just begin to lose their function, and waste and toxins begin to build up in their blood. Dialysis can replace the kidney to play the role of filtration. In the early stage of CRF, a few times of dialysis per month are enough for these patients to maintain their normal life, so their life will not be influenced by dialysis. In a word, dialysis is better than kidney transplant for early-stage CRF patients.
Kidney transplant is better for anther group of CRF patients.
Kidney transplant is considered when the patients with severe kidney disease that called end-stage kidney disease. A new kidney coming from the patients’ relative or unrelated person can help CRF patients get rid of dialysis and give them a new life. If the patients don’t have heart disease, mental disease, systemic disorders, etc and they have found a matched kidney, kidney transplant is a good choice for them. So we can know kidney transplant is more suited for end-stage CRF patients who don’t have the contraindication of kidney transplant.
No matter how perfect one thing is, it is still not suitable for everyone, and then how about our dialysis or kidney transplant? We should choose the treatment which is more effective for ourself.

Severe Headache After Dialysis

Headache is one of the common dialysis complications and usually occurs when dialysis is going to the end or after dialysis. Here I will introduce how dialysis cause headache and how to prevent it.
How does dialysis cause headache?
Generally speaking, headache in dialysis occurs because of the following several factors:
1. poor control of blood pressure
2.Dialysis Disequilibrium Syndrome (DDS)
3. Imbalanced electrolyte
4. When dialysis fluid is changed, headache may also occur
How to prevent headache in dialysis?
1. Controlling blood pressure actively through taking blood pressure-lowering medicines and reducing salt intake.
2. Ask your doctor to give you the previous dialysis fluid if your headache is caused by changing of dialysis fluid
Dialysis is just a medical method that help to remove toxins from the blood. Toxins or wastes in our blood should be normally discharged by our kidney, however because of kidney failure, these toxins can not be excreted timely, as a consequent of this, toxins build up in the blood. These toxins not only damage our kidney, but also threaten our other internal organs, so removing them is necessary. Under such a condition, dialysis is applied.
Dialysis indeed help to clean blood, but long-term application always present serious complications which may become the final cause of patient's death. Therefore, even though dialysis is helpful and at the same time, it is fatal.
For people with early stage kidney problem, they can prevent kidney failure through Immunotherapy which treats kidney problem through repairing kidney damages. As long as kidney damages are repaired, kidney function increase and also toxins are cleared away. With clean blood, no dialysis is needed and also no headache is caused.
