Kidney disease is divided into five stages according to the development. The
previous two stages are almost similar in the symptoms and characteristics,
which are not very obvious and less serious. As for stage 3, half of kidney
function is lost, which is serious compared with the previous stages. However,
when kidney disease develops to stage 4, the kidney function decreases sharply
and kidney disease becomes very severe. Here we will discuss about stage 4 of
kidney disease, especially about symptoms of it. Hope that patients with kidney
disease can realize if his disease condition is becoming much severe.
What is stage 4 of kidney disease?
First of all, we should understand the definition of stage 4. Stage 4 means
that your kidney function declines largely with your Glomerular Filtration Rate
(GFR) falling to 15-30ml/min. A large amount of wastes build up in the body,
which can lead to uremia. And erythropoietin can’t be produced enough for red
blood cells, which can cause anemia. Besides there are many complications
coexisting with kidney disease, such as high blood pressure, bone disease, heart
disease and other cardiovascular diseases.
What are the symptoms of stage 4?
We can judge the development of the disease from the symptoms, which
contributes to our treatment very much. Symptoms of stage 4 can fall into two
categories as non-specific and specific symptoms.
Non- specific symptoms:
these symptoms can also be found with other patients of CKD or even of other
diseases. Still, they are very useful indicators to test your condition.
Including:
1. Fatigue. Patients always feel tired easily.
2. Kidney pain: Most people with CKD do not have kidney pain, but with some
kinds of kidney problems, such as polycystic kidney disease (PKD) or infections,
they may have pain in their back where the kidneys are located.
3. Nerve problems. Early symptoms mainly include insomnia, poor concentration
and memory decline. In some cases, the patients experience tingling, numbness,
coma, insanity, etc.
4. Difficulty of concentrating. They can’t focus their attention and mind on
what they are doing.
5. Nausea. The patients always feel nauseated.
6. Insomnia. Patients can be very hard to fall asleep because of Skin
itching, restless legs or muscle cramps
Specific symptoms:
These symptoms are considered to be strong indications of the presence of
stage 4
Including:
7. Urine changes. Urine can become very cloudy with full of foam.
8. Bad appetite. Patients don’t want to eat things and there is a metallic
taste in their mouths.
9. Cardiovascular diseases. They are more likely to tend to heart failure,
arrhythmia, myocardial damage, or smoothing like that, because of high blood
pressure, water and sodium retention, anemia and toxic substances.
10. Too much fluid: The kidneys may lose their ability to control how much
fluid stays in the body. A person may notice swelling (edema) in their lower
legs, hands or face around the eyes. With too much fluid someone, could even
feel short of breath.
The above is the symptoms of stage 4 of kidney disease.
