Dietary therapy plays an important role in comprehensive treatment measures
for diabetes. A proper diet can help to keep blood sugar, blood lipid and blood
pressure within normal range, thus reducing chances of diabetic complications,
such as coronary disease, stroke, kidneys and neuroligocal complications.
First, calculate whether your body weight is within normal range:
Standard body weight:your height-105( 100 for diabetics over 40 years
old)
Your persent body weight condition=[(real body weight-standard body
weight)÷standard body weight]×100%
Severe obesity≥20% overweight≥10% slim≥-10% thin≥-20‰
Now, after the calculation, you can know which group you belong to:
1. Normal 2. Overweight 3. Obesity 4. Thin
Second, the required energies according to the labor intensity are listed as
follows (kcal/kg.day)
Overweight or obesity Normal body weight Insufficient bldy weight or
thiness
Rest state 202530
Light labor 253035
Moderate labor 303540
Severe labor 354045
Total energies that is needed per day can be calculated from above.
Third, have a calculation for nutrients per day:
Carbohydrate needed per day=[ total energies-(protein amount×4 + fat
amount×9)]/4
Proteins needed per day=body weight(㎏)×(0.6~0.8)
Fat needed per day=body weight(㎏)×1.0
Finally, from the above, a dietary prescription can be designed according to
your own condition. Some tips for you diet are as follows for your
reference:
1. Generally, diabetics should take more grains, such as whole wheat flour,
commeal, millet and buckwheat surface.
2. Oil intake per day should be no more than 50g.
3. Meat should be controlled within 50g to 100g, but diabetics with high
blood lipid had better give it up.
4. Vegetables containing high energies should be controlled, including
carrots, potatoes, sweet potatoes, taro and so on.
4. Fry and boiling are best cooking methods, and the diet should be low in
salt.
5. Limit or give up snacks which may bring some added energies.
