IgA Nephropathy is a symptom complex of several nephropathies with the same
immunopathological features. It has various clinical manifestations and
pathological features, and can be classified into several clinical types.
In total, IgA Nephropathy can be divided into seven types in clinic:
I Type of Solitary Microscopic Hematuria: It is characterized with the
solitary microscopic hematuria, and usually without the symptoms of proteinuria,
high blood pressure, renal insufficiency and anemia. Patients with this type of
IgA Nephropathy usually have a stable condition and it usually has a good
prognosis.
II Type of Asymptomatically Abnormal Urinalysis Test: This type of IgA
Nephropathy is the most commonly seen one. Its main clinical symptoms include
microscopic hematuria, medium or small amount of proteinuria. As to most of the
patients, this type of IgA Nephropathy have a good prognosis, while some cases
may develop into Chronic Renal Failure, due to the little attachment with those
symtoms.
III Type of Recurrent Gross Hematuria: This type of IgA Nephropathy is
commonly seen among pupils and youth, which is likely induced by upper
respiratory tract infection, overwork and so on. The urine of this type of
patients presents with the change of colour, such as looking brown, like the
water after washing meat, flavored tea, coca, soy sauce, etc. This type of IgA
Nephropathy usually has a good prognosis as well.
IV Type of Vasculitis: Clinical hematuria is an obvious symptom of patients
with this type of IgA Nephropathy. Besides, amenia and high creatinine are the
features of this type when compared with others. Some severe patients may even
present with Acute Renal Failure. This type of IgA Nephropathy usually has an
acute onset, and if patients don’t receive effect treatment, the disease is
quite easily to deteriorate, and even causes Chronic Renal Failure.
V Type of Massive Proteinuria: Male patients are more vulnerable to this type
of IgA Nephropathy with the symptoms of massive proteinuria (>3.5g/24h), low
plasma albumin (<35g/L) and hypercholesterolemia, besides, hypertension and
renal insufficiency are also commonly seen among patients with this type of IgA
Nephropathy.
VI Type of Hypertension: As to this type of patients, hypertension usually
happens with the onset of disease or becomes the obvious symptom in course of
the disease. Most patients of this type are males with an average onset age of
35. In clinic, these patients usually present with severe anemia and increased
night urine. Moreover, this type of IgA Nephropathy is quite easily to induce
renal insufficiency.
VII Type of Renal Failure in Advanced Stage: This type of IgA Nephropathy is
the end stage of those six types above. Patients with this type of disease
usually have a serum creatinine more than 5mg/dl.
As we can find above, although some types of IgA Nephropathy have mild
symptoms and good prognosis, if the patients don’t receive effective treatment
in time, IgA Nephropathy will finally arouse Renal Failure, and in that moment,
the damage of kidney will not be reversed at all, so patients with IgA
Nephropathy need to adopt treatment aggressively, and strive to recover as soon
as possible.
