The kidneys are an important organ in our body, the basic functions of the kidney are as follows.
First, it produces urine.
Second, it can purify the wastes or toxins of the body.
Third, the kidney tubules have the function of reabsorption, through which the kidneys can keep the water and other useful materials, such as glucose, protein, amino acid, sodium ion, potassium ion, sodium hydrogen carbonate, etc, so as to keep balance between water and electrolyte and maintain a acid-base equilibrium.
Forth, the kidneys have endocrine function. It can produce renin, hemopoietin ( which is related to anemia), activated vitamin D3 (which is related to calcium deficiency, renal osteodystrophy), prostaglandin, plasmakinin ( the last two are related to blood pressure.)
Fifth, the kidneys is the place where the degradation of the endocrine hormone in the organism takes place . Besides, it is also the target organ of the renal pheromone.
It is these functions above that the inner condition of our body stays stable and the metabolism runs smoothly.
