In recent years, children patients with nephropathy have become a
high-profile group to the society. We all know that the earlier to recognize a
disease, the easier to treat it. So, parents must pay high attention to some
abnormal presentations of your kids, for that it may be the forewarning of a
serious disease. In the following, this article will list some early
presentations of Childhood Nephrotic Syndrome to help the parents tell whether
their children are in danger of kidney disease.
Firstly, edema (swelling) is a commonly seen presentation of Childhood
Nephrotic Syndrome. Parents can be aware of it easily, and sometimes it may be
accompanied with decreased urine. The edema usually starts from eyelids and
face, once pressed, it will get hollowed, and gradually the edema will spread
into the whole body. For some severe cases, the kids may have hydrothorax and
ascitic which may arouse breathing difficulties, diarrhea or vomiting; and some
will be presented with white stripes or purple strips on legs, medial upper arm
and skin of abdominal wall. It is deserved to be mentioned that if the kids are
suspected to have nephritis, the edema may not as obvious as the presentation as
the simple nephropathy is, and some may be too mild to recognize.
Secondly, proteinuria is a character of nephropathy, the same goes for the
childhood Nephrotic Syndrome. As the loss of massive protein in a long term,
such presentations will come to the kids with nephropathy, like paleness, dry
cuticles and hair, white strips on fingernail and toenail. In addition, these
children patients may always looked depressed, and have poor appetite and
diarrhea. When the loss of protein has reached to a certain degree, these kids
will have hypoalbuminemia, leading to malnutrition and stunted growth.
In a conclusion, parents should not take some abnormal presentations of your
kids for granted, to ensure your kid enjoy a healthy life, you'd better have
your kid tested in hospital regularly. And once your kids are presenting such
symptoms above, you need to bring your kid go to hospital immediately in case
the disease deteriorates or even threatens life!
